Pompeii, Herculaneum & Mt. Vesuvius

The first stop of this excursion is Pompeii.

This unique site was discovered in 1748 under the King of Naples Charles III of Bourbon but the excavation took many years because of the extension of the area, about sixty-six hectares. Pompeii was the center of the Roman public life with its temples, the forum, the theatre, the Basilica. One of the most beautiful residential building in Pompeii is the House of the Faun, especially for its architecture and the famous mosaics.

After this amazing walking between archeology and art you will meet your driver at the meeting point and you are continuing your tour to the Vesuvius National Park.

This sit was founded on the 9th June 1995 and it includes 8.482 hectares of land surrounding Mount Vesuvius. It is a Unesco’s Mab Reserve because of the presence of naturalistic, geological and volcanological aspects. The aim of the area is to protect animal and plants species and to apply restoration methods suitable for the integration of man and natural environment.

After this interesting tour you will have time for a break and your driver will be happy to suggest you a great vineyard where it is possible to enjoy a great lunch and have a wine tasting. The Vesuvius National Park is becoming more and more popular also thanks for the great wine production.

Our last stop is Herculaneum.

This city was buried, like Pompeii, by the Vesuvius eruption in 79 AD. The old city was not very big and the site is about 20 hectares large. If Pompeii was the place of the social life, Romans love to spend in Herculaneum their holidays and this is demonstrated by the presence of many villas spectacularly looking out over the sea. Everything in Herculaneum has been well preserved: fabrics, furnishings, wooden part of buildings.

For this tour we highly recommend to wear comfortable shoes and a hat and to take with you a solar cream especially during the summer season.
