Paestum & buffalo mozzarella tasting

Paestum is an enchanting place located in the south part of the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast. Now it is listed  as a Unesco Heritage Site.

Originally the city was called Poseidonia and it was built by Greek colonists coming from Sybaris, around the 600BC. It grew and it became an important and rich city. In 410BC, Poseidonia was conquered by Lucanians and later by Romans who changed its name in Paestum. Paestum was quite forgotten until the 18 century when temples were rediscovered by road builders.

Today it is possible to visit temples and the museum (you can also decide to buy ticket only for one of these attractions). The large area which is open to the public includes civic buildings, temples, a Roman foro and Amphitheatre.

After this amazing visit (consider about 2,5 hours at least), you can dedicate few time to another interesting eno-gastronomic attraction: buffalo mozzarella cheese. Your driver will take you in one of the most popular mozzarella cheese factory to admire all the production process and also to have a great tasting. The buffalo mozzarella cheese sold as Mozzarella di Bufala Campana has been granted the status of Denominazione di Origine controllata (DOC) since 1993. This particular kind of Mozzarella is produced in the area around Paestum but also in some areas of Lazio and Apulia.

During your tour you will have the chance to visit animals, check all the production’s steps and finally enjoy a light meal based on this spectacular and delicious specialty.
